18–40 Mesh Walnut Shell Blasting Media
This 18–40 mesh walnut shell blasting media is a medium, sub-angular abrasive for approved blasting systems. Approximate 0.4–1.0 mm particles can add cleaning action while producing zero to slight surface texture. Confirm machine approval, mixing rate, dust controls and allergen requirements before use.
Description
Medium 18–40 Mesh Walnut Shell Blasting Media
This 18–40 mesh walnut shell blasting media provides a mild abrasive additive for approved dry ice blasting machines and other compatible blasting systems. Its sub-angular particles add mechanical cleaning action while generally producing little to slight surface texture, depending on the substrate and operating setup.
With an approximate particle size of 0.4–1.0 mm, this medium grade can help remove contamination that dry ice alone does not release efficiently. Always confirm that the blasting machine, metering system, hose and nozzle are approved for walnut shell media.
Typical Applications
- Additional cleaning action with abrasive-capable Dry Ice Energy machines
- Removal of coatings, carbon and stubborn residue from suitable surfaces
- Automotive and machinery restoration
- Cleaning where a relatively mild organic abrasive is preferred
- Surface preparation requiring zero to slight profile

Dry Ice Blasting Compatibility
Use walnut shell media only in machines and accessory configurations specifically approved for abrasive additives. Do not use it in the Champ Basic or another dry-ice-only machine. The appropriate mixing rate depends on the machine, hopper, nozzle, contamination and surface; do not treat a generic “cup per hopper” ratio as a universal instruction.
Safety and Containment
Walnut shell blasting produces recoverable solid media and dust. Review the current Safety Data Sheet, provide suitable respiratory, eye and hearing protection, isolate the work area and collect spent media and removed contamination. Assess nut-allergen risks for workers and facilities, especially food, healthcare and shared environments.
Test a small area before production use. Even a mild abrasive can change gloss, texture, coatings, labels, seals and soft materials.
