Description
Bulk Moisture Separation for Compressed-Air Systems
The Super-Dry FSD-185-W water separator uses centrifugal airflow to remove bulk liquid water from compressed air before it reaches a dryer, filter, blasting machine or pneumatic tool. Its internal spinner drives entrained liquid toward the housing, where the included float drain discharges collected condensate.
A centrifugal separator is commonly installed downstream of an aftercooler or air receiver and upstream of a desiccant dryer. Removing bulk liquid at this stage helps protect dryer cartridges and downstream filtration from flooding.

What a Water Separator Does — and Does Not Do
The unit removes bulk liquid water. It does not by itself guarantee dry air, remove all water vapor or deliver a defined pressure dew point. Blasting and critical pneumatic applications may also need an aftercooler, coalescing filter and desiccant or refrigerated dryer.
Installation Guidance
- Install in the indicated flow direction with adequate support and service access.
- Keep inlet pressure and temperature within the published limits.
- Route the drain discharge safely and check float operation regularly.
- Provide isolation and fully depressurize the system before maintenance.
- Size piping to avoid excessive pressure drop at operating flow.
